My report about the Fancy Show in Dresden 07.07.2000
As a huge fan of Fancy during the larst 39 years of course it was always a big desire and hope
of mine, that i would one day have the chance to go and see one of his shows...so i didn´t
hesitate to make reservation for the tickets, when i found the info about this open air show
with Fancy and Bad Boys Blue on the official Fancy Homepage http://www.fancy-online.com/
06.07.2000: Early morning: My sister and I catched the train from Aarhus/Denmark and
travelled all day long. 12 houres later we finally reached Dresden and we had a good nights sleep.
07.07.2000: We had a whole day ahead of us to rest and look at the sights & shops in Dresden
before the show in the evening.... After 19:00 and we were let in at " Brauereihof der
Bierbörse " where the show was to take plase. It was the most idyllic spot you can imagine;
surrounded by hills and forrest. The stage was situated in a paved yard between the beer
brewery buildings. Mr. Dave de Gore / ArtClick had a little stall there as well where they sold
all the articles from the 'Fan-shop'...
I was told, there would be a litte surprise for me if I returned to the ArtClick stall after
Fancys performance, but not WHAT this surprise would be....!!!
There was still more than two hours to go before Fancys performance at 22:00, so we spent
most of the waiting time right in front of the stage making sure nobody took our spot.
Of course all the fans knew that it was his birthday on exactly this day and for those who didn´t
know already, it was said before Fancy arriwed... FINALLY Fancy went on stage and
everybody shouted with excitement :-) It was quite an intertaining performance by Fancy: He
was smiling, jumping around and making fun inbetween the songs. - I read lots of places that
his performances and like that - but it wasn´t until I saw it myself that I understood how much
energy he puts into his performances. A DJ in the corner of the stage took care of the music
( Fancy calld him "Herr Kapelmeister"). At some point Fancy made quite a joke of turning 54,
as he said something like "I can´t believe I´m turning 54 today, it feels lik 74!" Meanwhile he
was constantly jumping around like a 24-year old :-) Everybody was clapping and singing
along to songs like "Slice Me Nice" "Bolero" "Running Man" "Lady Of Ice" "Megamix
2000" and "Flames Of Love" etc... Every now and then he came jumping right out to the edge
of the stage shaking hands and saying "Hallo!" to the fans in the first row, and during one of
the songs he dragged a girl from the audience onto the stage and danced with her as well. He
also handed out cards with signatures...
When he disappeared behind the stage the crowd started clapping and shouting "Zugabe -
Zugabe..." ("extras") until he came bak and did another song - this happend a few times - one
of the extras was "We Can Move A Mountain"... When he came on stage for the last time he
didn´t have any more extras. The DJ in the corner started playing the music for "Happy
Birthday" and the entire audience sang along to the tune and lit their Flames Of Love-lighters.
After this the organizer from Brauereihof der Bierbörse came on stage and gave Fancy a big
bouquet of flowers and a birthday present. Altogether the show lasted about one hour.
My sister brought her big camera along to make some nice pictures of Fancy for me;
You can see some of the Photos next to this report :-)
After the show my sister and I returned to the ArtClick stall and Mr. Dave de Gore. Together
with two other fans we were guided behind a fence, across a yard, into a hous and up some
stairs... We waited tn the doorway while Dave announced our arriwal to Fancy - seconds later
Fancy came towards us and said hello. "You came all the way from Denmark?", he asked me
in german. "-Welcome to Germany. then!". Then he hugged us one by one, and afterwards I
had the chance to congratulate him on his birthday :-) ...Fancy pointed out a good spot in the
room for us to have our pictures taken together with him and after that we all had signatures; I
had my "Strip Down" CD signed. Finally we all had a goodbye-hug, and he wished us a
pleasant trip back home. Dave guided us back to the concert area and shortly after Bad Boys
Blue went on stage and gave a great performance as well.(Of course, now all the good spots
up front at the stage were taken...) BBB performed some of their greatest hits along with some
of their new material as well. The croed was clapping, whistling and singing along and
nobody relly cared about the fact that the rain started pouring down...
To me all this was a great experience and one day I hope to get the chance to go to one of
Fancys concerts again.
